Canopy CMD is a Mac window switcher made by KindridStudio ("we," "us"). We built Canopy to be private by default, and this policy explains — plainly — the small amount of data we handle and why. If anything here is unclear, email hello@canopycmd.app.
Canopy does not track you. It has no analytics, no advertising, no telemetry, and it never reads, stores, or transmits your browsing, your window contents, your documents, or your files. The only personal data we handle is what we need to sell you a license and keep that license honest.
To show you window previews, Canopy uses macOS Accessibility and Screen Recording permissions. Everything it sees stays on your Mac: previews are generated and cached locally and never leave your device. Canopy contacts the internet only for license checks (below). It does not phone home for anything else.
| Data | When | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Email address | When you buy a license or join the beta | To send your license key and provide support |
| Your name | When you join the beta or buy a license | To address you personally in emails and support |
| Email marketing preference | Only if you tick the opt-in box yourself | To send product updates and launch news you asked for. Every such email has an unsubscribe link; unsubscribing never affects your license key or support. We never sell or share your address |
| Payment details | At checkout | Processed entirely by Stripe — we never see or store your card number |
| License key & an anonymous device identifier | When you unlock a key and once per day after | To validate the license and count activated Macs against your seat limit. The device identifier is a one-way hash of a hardware ID; we cannot reverse it to identify your machine |
| Feedback you send | Only if you use the feedback form or email us | To fix bugs and improve Canopy |
| IP address | Transiently, on requests to our server | Rate-limiting and abuse prevention; not used to build a profile of you |
We do not sell your data, ever. We rely on a few trusted providers to run the service, and share only what each needs:
We may disclose information if required by law.
Our website sets no advertising or analytics cookies. We do not track you across sites. (An administrative area we use internally stores a token in the browser for our own staff; it is never set on customer visits.)
We keep your email and license record for as long as your license exists, so we can support you and let you recover your key. If you ask us to delete your data, we will, except where we must keep a record for legal or accounting reasons (for example, proof of a transaction).
You can ask us to access, correct, or delete the personal data we hold about you, and to stop using it. Depending on where you live (for example, the EU/UK under GDPR, or California under CCPA), you may have additional rights. To exercise any of them, just email hello@canopycmd.app and we will respond promptly.
Canopy is sold worldwide. Your data may be processed on servers operated by the providers above, which may be located outside your country. We only work with providers that offer appropriate safeguards for international data transfers.
Canopy is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
If we change this policy, we will update the date above and post the new version here. Material changes will be noted clearly.
Questions about your privacy? Email hello@canopycmd.app and a human will answer.
